8 Kitchen Cabinet Colors to Consider

Colorful kitchen cabinets can go a long way in determining the look and feel of your entire kitchen. If you’re thinking about remodeling your kitchen, don’t forget to update your cabinet color as well. You certainly aren’t stuck with the color of your current cabinets, as there are many variations available to choose from. The following eight kitchen cabinet colors are just some of the popular choices you should consider.

  • Soft Yellow – Add some instant warmth to your kitchen with a soft or buttery yellow, which pairs great with stained wood countertops or touches of white.
  • Light Gray – A neutral and more traditional color, light gray pairs great with white or black countertops. Warmer shades of gray provide a casual, clean, and comfortable environment.
  • Black – A nice, elegant black adds some sophistication to your kitchen. Black cabinets can easily be paired with several colors of countertops including popular choices like stained wood or light colored stone.
  • Ocean Blue – Bring a coastal comfort to your kitchen with ocean blue, which pairs with butcher block countertops and virtually any type of appliances.
  • Bright Red – A bright, fire engine red can make a bold statement. This color will blend well with black or white countertops and silver stainless steel appliances.
  • Orange – Bright orange pairs well with black countertops, just think Halloween colors. It also goes well with any shade of gray. You’ll likely be saying orange ya glad I chose it?
  • Green – Soft greens pair well with just about anything and provide a welcoming and casual feel. They look great with stained wood countertops or shades of white.
  • White – A traditional white can give you a clean look that won’t go out of style and is best paired with white marble or butcher block countertops.

If you want your kitchen or countertops remodeled, call Rochester Bath Remodeling at 585-381-1320.

6 of the Most Popular Kitchen Layouts

If you’re tired of your non-functional kitchen that doesn’t give you enough space to work with, you aren’t alone. The good news is that you don’t have to live with whatever kitchen originally came with your home. A custom kitchen can be designed however you prefer, but you should first know a bit about these popular kitchen layout types.

One-Wall - This style can also be referred to as a Pullman kitchen and is most popular in smaller homes such as lofts or studios. Almost all of the kitchen’s appliances and cabinets are located on a single wall to save space. More modern one-wall kitchens also include an island which adds functionality.

Galley - This option can be a bit larger than a one-wall kitchen, and is designed for only one cook at a time. This walk-through kitchen features two walls or countertops opposite from each other and avoids corner cabinets.

L-Shape - This kitchen design maximizes corner space and features countertops on adjoining walls that form an “L” shape. The design of this kitchen allows for efficient traffic flow but is not always ideal if you want to add an island.

Horseshoe - Also called a U-shaped kitchen, this layout features three walls of cabinets and appliances. Most often modern designs incorporate an island into the third side and the horseshoe design allows for more than one cook in the kitchen.

Island - A kitchen island provides plenty of work surface as well as cabinets for storage and appliances. The island can be paired with stools to provide a place to eat, and can even include a sink or other features like a wine cooler. Islands are a great kitchen feature, but you’ll need to be sure you have plenty of room for one.

Peninsula - This style is similar to an island kitchen, but is connected which is where it gets its name. They can be more practical if your kitchen isn’t big enough to support a large island, but still offer plenty of room to work with.

Popular Bathtub and Shower Options

Taking a bath or a shower is a part of our everyday routine, but it should also be enjoyable. When purchasing a home, you often don’t have a choice as to what type of shower or tub option you prefer. Sometimes the fact that a home only has a shower and not a bathtub or vice versa can be a deal breaker for a prospective home buyer.

While the basic options for bathing remain standing showers, bathtubs, shower/tub combos, or a separate shower and bathtub, there are also many varieties of each type to choose from. The following are some popular bathtub options to choose from:

  • Alcove – One of the most popular styles of bathtubs, the alcove only has one finished side and is often part of a shower/tub combo.
  • Freestanding – This type of tub is most often the centerpiece of the bathroom and can be quite elegant and provide a good soaking option similar to a hot tub.
  • Corner – The triangular shape of a corner bathtub is designed to not take up too much space in a smaller bathroom.
  • Walk-In Tubs – These tubs are ideal for relaxation and soaking. They are designed to make entry easy and the door locks when the tub starts to fill.
  • Shower/Tub Combo – This is a great space saver and is the preferred option if you have members of the family that want the ability to take a bath or a shower.

If you have a bathtub in your home but would prefer a shower, you don’t have to have your bathroom completely remodeled. A tub-to-shower conversion can be performed by the professionals at Rochester Bath & Kitchen Remodeling. Best of all, there are plenty of options to choose from including wall colors, base colors, and accessories. Call us today at 585-381-1320 for a free estimate.

Five Must Have Shower Accessories

Sometimes taking a shower is like going to visit your relatives for the holidays; you just want to get in and get out quickly. Showers can also be a refreshing experience and help you begin or end your day in a relaxing way. If your showers seem to be lacking, try some of these must have shower accessories.

There are plenty of unnecessary shower gadgets such as a shower curtain with a waterproof slot to let you check your email on a tablet and a wireless Bluetooth-speaker that lets you take phone calls. Hopefully, your business can wait until you are out of the shower and get into the office, but there are plenty of other, more practical shower accessories to enhance your daily experience.

5. Speakers – If you enjoy singing in the shower or just rocking out to some tunes, there are plenty of waterproof speakers available. Many use Bluetooth technology, just be sure to leave your phone far enough away so it doesn’t get wet.

4. Thermostat Control Valve – This may sound like more trouble than it’s worth, but you can eliminate the guessing game of having water that is too hot or too cold. You can find the perfect water temperature for you, and you can leave the valve on your desired setting so you don’t have to mess with it each day.

3. Magnetic Shampoo Holders – Eliminate clutter and having to set things on the ledge of your bathtub. A magnetic holder can store shampoo, soap, or any other products you need for your daily routine.

2. Shower Caddy – If a magnetic holder isn’t your speed, an old fashioned shower caddy can help you save space and keep all your shower stuff handy. There are a wide variety of styles and colors to choose from.

1. Waterproof Clock – If you’re rushed every morning, you can purchase a waterproof clock that uses a suction cup to stick to the wall of your shower.

Rochester Bath Remodeling can convert your bathtub into a luxurious shower with plenty of space to keep all your new shower accessories. Contact us today for your free estimate.

How to Remodel Your Kitchen to Maximize Your Home's Resale Value

Remodeling your kitchen or bathroom can make your home a better place instantly, but it can also be an investment in your future. A kitchen or bathroom upgrade can add equity to your home by increasing its resale value. In fact, kitchen remodels are ranked as the highest return on investment for home improvement projects.

Many kitchens have appliances, cabinets, and fixtures that were installed in the 1990s or even earlier. If a kitchen remodel sounds too expensive at first, consider the fact that you should be able to expect about an 85% return on your investment. That means that you can enjoy your new kitchen while you still live in your home, and recoup the majority of the cost when you decide to sell.

You’ll want to improve the visual appeal of your kitchen without overdoing it. Many potential homeowners will be attracted to high-end appliances and finishes that are clean, modern, and functional. Try the following ABC’s to increase the visual appeal of your kitchen:

Appliances – Many buyers want a home that is move-in ready. Instead of choosing black and white appliances, go for stainless steel which is more popular among many people searching for a new home. Whether you choose to upgrade your refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, or other appliances, you can’t go wrong with the latest in technology.

Backsplashes – A bright and clean backsplash will make your kitchen look luxurious without breaking the bank. Choose a color that complements the rest of your kitchen and is easy on the eyes.

Cabinets – New cabinets can be very attractive to potential buyers and do a lot to improve the look and feel of a kitchen. There are plenty of cabinet designs to choose from and each can add a certain elegance to your kitchen.

Rochester Bath and Kitchen Remodeling can help you maximize your home’s resale value with a full kitchen update. We can also update your kitchen cabinets or countertops to increase your kitchen’s visual appeal. Give us a call today at 585-381-1320 to schedule a consultation.

How to Make Your Bathroom Feel Like a Luxurious Spa

While most of us spend a good amount of time in the bathroom, it probably wouldn’t be considered one of our favorite rooms in the house. Bathrooms are typically functional but don’t provide a place you’d want to spend much of your time.

That may be changing thanks to a new trend where bathrooms are being transformed to feel like luxurious spas. Going to a day spa is a treat that people look forward to as a way of spoiling and pampering themselves. Being able to do that from the comfort of your own bathroom can give you the best of both worlds.

If you really want to turn your bathroom into a personal oasis you can opt to have it remodeled. Custom bathrooms should start with the bathtub as the central point of the room. If you prefer a shower or want to have both, you’ll want to make it as large as possible to feel more open. Showerheads can also go a long way towards a luxurious experience.

Keep your bathroom layout as open and airy as possible. Utilize marble, tile, natural stone, and/or frosted glass to promote a zen-like atmosphere. If you really want to go all out, you can even have a fireplace installed in the bathroom. Choose calming colors and soft finishes for a soothing atmosphere.

Lighting is a key element in setting the mood, so try dim light that produces an overall glow. You can also opt for dimmers or even a chandelier to help you relax, take a deep breath, and escape from the day’s problems.

Rochester Bath and Kitchen Remodeling can provide you a free in-home custom bathroom design consultation to help you make your bathroom into a luxurious spa. You can also visit our showroom to see our wide selection of showers, bathtubs, whirlpools, lighting, fixtures, and more.

The Five Best Countertop Materials for a Busy Kitchen

Kitchen countertops are where all the action happens when preparing meals in your home, so it makes sense to choose the best available option. While some homeowners prefer to order takeout or do only light cooking, others prepare large meals almost every night. The type of countertops that are best for your kitchen are dependent on what you use them for as well as personal preference.

There are several options available when it comes to kitchen countertops. A busy kitchen is going to need countertops that stand up to stains, cuts, heat damage, and more. Check out these five best countertop materials for a busy kitchen.

5. Solid Surfacing

This option is average for busy kitchens. It resists a lot of stains and allows for small scratches and nicks to be repaired. It is recommended that you use cutting boards when preparing food on solid surfacing.

4. Laminate

Advances in technology have made laminate a viable contender in the countertop space. This material is still fairly inexpensive and easy to install. Laminate stands up to stains and heat pretty well, but you’ll want to use a cutting board to avoid damage.

3. Limestone

This material type is a classic and has remained popular over the years. Limestone resists heat and is one of the more attractive options with a natural stone look.

2. Granite

Granite not only looks great but also stands up to wear and tear. Each slab is unique and granite is available in many colors. It holds up to heat as well as cuts and scratches as well.

1. Quartz

Busy kitchens can certainly benefit from quartz countertops, which hold up to heat, cuts, scratches, and stains. Granite also comes in a variety of colors and patterns to provide an attractive look.

Rochester Bath Remodeling has a variety of countertops available in many colors and designs. We proudly work with Cambria, an American-made producer of natural quartz surfaces. Contact us today for more information or to schedule an appointment at 585-381-1320.

How Adding an Island Can Dramatically Improve Your Kitchen

If your kitchen needs to be updated, one simple solution is adding an island. A kitchen island can enhance the look and functionality of your kitchen. It can also increase your home’s resale value and serve as the focal point of your overall kitchen remodel.

The shape, size, look, and features of your home’s kitchen island can be customized to your needs. Continue reading to learn how your island can be used for cooking, food preparation, a dining area, and a storage space.

Cooking and Food Prep

A kitchen island can actually be a great place to cook. Installing a stovetop on the island opens up the rest of your kitchen counter space. It also gives you plenty of room to prepare your food. You can also add a kitchen sink to your island and make it a dedicated area for food preparation. Anyone from amateur cooks to professional chefs can benefit from a kitchen island.

Dining Area

In addition to being an area to cook or prepare food, a kitchen island can also serve as a dining area. Add some nice bar stools or high top chairs and you instantly have a breakfast nook or informal dining table. This is also a great option for those with a small or non-existent dining room.

Storage and Other Space Saving Ideas

Anything you can do with a traditional kitchen counter area can also be done with a kitchen island. That means there’s plenty of room for storage and you can have as many cabinets and drawers as you want. You can even install a dishwasher or wine refrigerator, and any other kitchen appliances you can think of.

Custom Kitchen Islands

Rochester Bath and Kitchen Remodeling can help design the perfect island for your kitchen. Islands come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be customized with the features mentioned above. There are also many countertop materials to choose from.

We are committed to customer satisfaction and will help address your family’s lifestyle and needs to choose the ideal kitchen for your home. Give us a call today at 585-484-9067 to schedule your free in-home design consultation.

Four of the Most Luxurious Bathrooms in the World

The bathroom is a place most people spend a good amount of time and likely start off their day. Living with an outdated restroom certainly won’t make this time very pleasant. Some resorts and businesses have gone all out, spending millions of dollars to make these rooms ultra-luxurious. Continue reading to check out four of the most luxurious bathrooms in the world.

Underwater Bathroom in Dubai

If you don’t mind spending more than $17,000 a night, you can enjoy the breathtaking views in the luxurious bathroom of the Poseidon Suite at the Atlantis, The Palm resort in Palm Jumeirah. The man-made island in Dubai is home to many expensive resorts, and this one features several underwater themed rooms. You can relax in the bathtub while watching fish, sharks, and manta rays swimming by. These particular rooms have been enjoyed by celebrities including Khloe Kardashian, who posted photos with her “sting bae” on Instagram.

Solid Gold Bathroom in Hong Kong

In Hang Fung Gold Technology’s showroom, you can find an incredibly opulent restroom which includes a solid gold toilet. This bathroom’s sink, tiles, and floors are also made of gold and you can even dispose of your trash in a receptacle made of gold. The toilet is said to actually work, although it’s only designed to be used in an extreme emergency. This restroom is worth millions of dollars and once set a Guinness world record for the most expensive bathroom in the world.

Trump Tower

Long before Donald Trump ever became president, he was making sure Trump Tower had the finest luxuries for its occupants. The restrooms were designed by Kenneth Bordewick and feature 24 karat gold overlays on the sink and shower handles. The bathroom’s alabaster walls are worth more than $2 million and were created in Portugal. These restrooms are said to be nicer than Mr. Trump’s own washroom.

Vanity Nightclub

The restrooms located inside the Vanity nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas were designed as a sanctuary to get away from the dance floor. While the men’s room features flat screen TVs and fake reptile skin walls, the real gem is the ladies’ room. This powder room cost $1 million to build and takes up 2000 square feet. It features six vanity stations with their own plush red settees for women to primp and relax. According to its designer Charles Doell of Mr. Important Designs, “Girls go in there and they don’t come out!”
